Temperature Control Techniques

Essential methods to maintain optimal growing conditions in your greenhouse

Ventilation

Ventilation helps regulate temperature, reduce excess humidity, and improve airflow inside a greenhouse. It allows hot air to escape, brings in fresh air, and prevents overheating. Install our automatic roof vent openers and side louvre vents for optimal cross-ventilation.

Shading

Shading helps prevent overheating and protects plants from intense sunlight. Installing your greenhouse in an area that receives shade throughout the day reduces direct sunlight and heat during peak hours. Installing shade netting provides the same effect.

Evaporative cooling

Misting systems and wet floors create evaporative cooling. This natural process can lower temperatures by 8-10°C on hot days. Install our misting kit to have more control over the internal climate.

Heating systems

Our greenhouses are fitted with twin-wall polycarbonate panels, which provide natural insulation by trapping warm air inside the greenhouse. In colder locations or during winter, additional heating can be used to maintain temperatures, protect plants from frost, and support healthy growth. Greenhouse-safe heaters or passive heat sources can be added to further improve insulation.

Insulation

Our twin-wall polycarbonate panels help retain heat by trapping air between layers, reducing heat loss and protecting plants from sudden temperature drops. To further improve insulation, ensure all panels and doors are properly secured, seal any gaps or drafts. Adding thermal mass, like stone flooring, can also help absorb heat during the day and release it slowly at night, creating a more consistent growing environment.

Temperature monitoring

Regularly checking internal temperatures helps you respond quickly to heat spikes, cold drops, or inconsistent conditions that can stress plants. Using thermometers or digital temperature sensors allows you to track daily highs and lows, ensuring ventilation, shading, heating, or misting systems are used at the right time. Accurate temperature monitoring supports your greenhouse year-round.

5 Top Tips to Help Your Greenhouse Thrive

  • Open roof and louver vents in the morning to release built-up heat before temperatures rise
  • Water plants early in the day so excess moisture can evaporate
  • Monitor humidity levels alongside temperature for optimal plant health
  • Clean panels regularly to allow maximum light transmission.
  • A thriving greenhouse is about balancing ventilation, temperature, light and moisture.
